Battlestation Review – Insane Ultra-Wide Setup

This ultra-wide battlestation will bring any battlestation enthusiast to their knees, begging for more.  This battlestation was posted to the /r/battlestations subreddit by user fakemeta and instantly reaped all of the sweet karma that was available for the taking, and deservedly so.   Let’s not waste any time and dive right in to scoring this beautiful creation.

Performance [ 7.5 / 10]

This machine is just as fast as it is sexy.  It is blazing at an alarming rate of speed with the AMD Ryzen 7 1700 3.0GHz 8-Core CPU, one of the hottest CPU’s on the entry-level market right now.  It is even debated that this CPU is a better purchase than the big brother CPU’s, 1800X and 1700X:

Alongside the incredibly high-performing CPU, the graphics card used to power this ultra-wide set up is the EVGA GTX1080 Ti FTW3.  This GPU is packing 11GB GDDR5X, 9 thermal sensors, and RGB LED lighting.  It drawns nearly 300W of power from the power supply.  Definitely a beast!

For storage, the operating system and critical programs are stored on a Samsung 850 Evo 500GB solid state drive.  That will help load applications extremely fast, with plenty of multi-tasking capability inside of the 32GB of G.SKILL Trident Z memory.  For those of you who are not familiar, that’s 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM 2800.  Incredibly fast and abundant memory.

The central nervous system connecting all of these components together also deserves a mention, the ASRock X370 Taichi.  Designed specifically for the AMD AM4 Socket Ryzen Series CPUs (Summit Ridge), this mobo supports NVIDIA Quad SLI or AMD Quad CrossFireX.  Could you imagine this machine being upgraded in the future to run multiple GPU’s?  Not to mention the board also has M.2 Gen3 slots for storage performances in the future.

Aesthetics [7.9 / 10]

A beautiful wallpaper really invites a viewer to this battlestation.  I wonder how fakemeta feels when he gets to use this battlestation each day.  It makes us jealous over here at Battlestation Reviews.  The tempered glass PHANTEKS Enthoo Evolv ATX case really opens up the insides of the PC to be admired by many.  This case was even named THE best case of 2015 by the HardwareCanucks:

The Star Wars art on the walls does nothing but compliment this battlestation.  The matching colors to the wallpaper on the incredible ultra-wide Asus PG348Q is absolutely second to none.

The audio equipment could be a bit cumbersome to the casual gamer, but to an audiophile – this is a setup that rivals some of the best configurations.  The headphone stand is a nice touch, holding the Sennheiser HD700‘s as well as the elusive Takstar Pro80’s (I dare you to find a pair).

A bit of custom work to this desk may be a nice touch in the future.  Mounting some of the audio equipment or even the large Yamaha HS7 speakers could do wonders to cleaning up some of the aesthetics to this battlestation as a whole.

Practicality [8.9 / 10]

Overall, the practicality of this setup is definitely in the eye of the beholder.  For a casual gamer, not so much.  For a Star Wars loving audiophile gamer, absolutely.

This setup is definitely not for everyone’s budget, but it really features some of the best equipment on the market today mixed in with some reasonably priced consumer equipment.

We know that plenty of creativity and money was dumped into this battlestation, and for good reason.  For fakemeta, this battlestation is one of a kind and designed perfectly to suit his needs.  For that, we applaud you.
